Jesus is at the center of everything.
Emmaus is a Baptist, Gospel-centered, evangelical church in North Baltimore, committed to expository preaching and historic Christian faith.
We believe that Jesus is inviting us to join Him on a journey that changes everything about us. Not just what you do, but who you are.
The Discipleship Pathway helps us live in light of that beautiful reality.
Historic beliefs in modern times.
Our covenant members affirm and hold to these 9 core beliefs:
-
There is only one true and living God who is the Creator of the universe. He exists eternally in three Persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
The Bible is God’s written revelation of Himself to mankind divinely given through human authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is entirely true, totally sufficient, and completely authoritative for matters of life and faith.
-
Human beings are created by God to bear His image. They are the crowning work of His creation worthy of love, dignity, and respect regardless of matters like age, race, gender, or class.
-
Because of the Fall, God’s image in people is distorted but not lost. All people have disobeyed God willfully through sin; thus inheriting both physical and spiritual death and the need for redemption. All human beings are born with a sin nature and into an environment inclined toward sin. Only by the grace of God through Jesus Christ can they experience salvation.
-
Jesus is both fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the Cross as a substitute for mankind, was raised from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will one day return to establish his kingdom’s reign.
-
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man. No other religion, belief, or person can reconcile God and man. He alone can provide forgiveness and eternal salvation.
-
Salvation comes only through a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior, as a person repents of sin and receives Christ’s forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation is instantaneous and accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. This salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of Christ’s life, death and resurrection, not on the basis of human works. All the redeemed are secured in Christ forever.
-
The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head.
-
God will bring the world to its appropriate end in His own time and in His own way.
At that time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. Christ will judge both the saved and unsaved.
Those who have trusted Christ will receive a glorified body and dwell forever with the Lord. Those who have not trusted in Christ will spend eternity in hell, separated from God.
Emmaus holds to the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Baptist Faith & Message. This guides our preaching, our practice, and how we shepherd our church.
It reflects our core convictions like the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and the local church as a gathered community of believers called to worship, discipleship, and mission together.
We don't hold these beliefs as a formality — they shape how we preach, how we structure our church, and how we walk with one another.
If you want the full statement, you can read the Baptist Faith & Message here.
Meet our leaders.
Every person at Emmaus — not just our pastors — is called to minister to one another and to our city. We believe every believer has a role to play in building real community and loving our neighbors well.
Within that, our pastors carry specific responsibility for teaching, oversight, and shepherding our church family.
Meet the two who currently serve in that role at Emmaus:
Andrew Garner | Pastor for Preaching & Vision
Andrew is passionate about seeing people shaped by the preaching of God's Word. He graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2019.
In his free time, he loves playing pickleball, fishing, and spending time with his wife Maranda and his kids, Savannah and Theo.
Tim Wilkerson | Pastor for Connecting & Discipleship
Tim has been helping start new churches in the Mid-Atlantic since 2012. He is a 2012 graduate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he's excited to see God's people wearing out their Bibles and wearing out their dinner tables as they love their neighbor.
He’s been married to Jill for 10 years, loves a good hike & a good concert, with his son Chance and his insane mini-Schnauzer named Marshall.
Mission Partners
We didn't plant Emmaus alone, and we're not building it alone either.
From the beginning, God has surrounded us with churches and organizations committed to seeing the gospel take root in Baltimore — and we're grateful to do this work alongside them.
Emmaus was planted by Redemption City Church, who sent us out to start this work in North Baltimore.
We're resourced and trained in part by SEND Network, the church planting arm that has invested in our development as a church and as leaders.
We're also grateful for Times12, a partner in our ongoing training and equipping as we grow.
These partnerships remind us that church planting isn't a solo endeavor — it's the whole body of Christ working together for the sake of the Gospel in this city.
